After years of meeting and talking with innocent men and women, we realized many of them struggle to survive. Most innocence projects are small teams that focus on getting innocent people out of prison. They do not have the resources to provide post-exoneration help.

Sure, there are a handful of organizations around the country that help exonerees once they’ve been released, but these tend to focus on temporary housing, health insurance, and mental health care. 

We saw a need for helping someone get through a rough patch and so we offer emergency grants. We saw a need to help people with more lasting improvements to their quality of life and so we offer training and certification in public speaking.

We do this work because it needs to be done. If not us, who? If not now, when?
